Paul “Polo” Sanchez, 71, of 764 Abingdon St., Galesburg, died January 22, 2008 at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
Polo was born on July 4, 1936 in Ciudad, Acuna, Mexico, the son of Francisco and Sara Moreno Casres. He was raised by his Aunt Vincenta Sanchez of Del Rio, Texas. He is survived by his life partner with whom he made his home, Teresa Rodriguez; 3 sons, Javier (Stacy) Rodriguez of Galesburg, Jose M. and Rodolfo (Anna) Sanchez both of Mexico; 5 daughters, Sara (Jose Luis) Rodriguez of Mexico, Juanita Sanchez of Del Rio, Texas, Yolanda, Rosario, and Guadalupe Sanchez all of Mexico; a brother, Benjamin Sanchez of Mexico; a sister, Amelia Moreno of Mexico; his grandchildren, Alex Rodriguez, Jordyn and Bryce DeJaynes all of Galesburg, and several more residing in Mexico. Also surviving are several cousins including Martin (Barbara) Sanchez, Charlie (Maggie) Perez, and Henry Perez all of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by a son, Victor Hugo Sanchez and a daughter, Aurora Sanchez.
He had worked at Gates Rubber Co., Galesburg Malleable, and Iowa Malleable. He was a member of the United Steel Workers and Corpus Christi Church. Polo loved to fish and was an avid Cubs fan.
