Paul M. Greenberg passed away on November 25, 2016 after a long illness. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 16, 1940. His family moved to Albuquerque in 1945 and he attended Eugene Field Elementary, Lincoln Junior High, and graduated from Highland High School. He received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from UNM. He went on to work in the computer field at PNM and UNM, retiring in 1997. While working for PNM, he was part of the original team that instituted one of two large IBM computer systems in Albuquerque. After retirement he opened a business selling AMSOIL products. Paul loved to build and race cars, and held a leadership position in the NM Timing Assoc. that planned and constructed Albuquerque Dragway, a legal drag strip that opened in 1964. He was also a Charter Member of the Southwest Drag Racing Assoc., a certified Technical Inspector for the National Hot Rod Assoc., and a valued mentor to many racers. He also worked with the Police Athletic League to encourage young people to build and race cars at the track and not on the street.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mickey and Corinne Haas Greenberg. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his sister, Shelah Wilgus; son Lyle and wife, Roberta, granddaughters, Rachel and Jennifer and husband, Sean and their son, Connor; son, David and wife, Robin, and grandchildren, Jeffrey, Arianna, and, Grace. He is also survived by a large extended family. He will be missed by his family, his friends, his AMSOIL customers, and the racing community.
