Paul Joseph Stanley, aged 79 of Milford, passed away peacefully at Milford Hospital on Saturday, December 26, 2009. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Sullivan) Stanley for 62 years. Born in Boston, MA on July 13, 1930, Mr. Stanley was the son of the late Warren Ormsby Stanley and Agnes Keough Stanley and was predeceased by sisters Helen Beaudoin, Ruth Rynne, and brother Warren Stanley.
Mr. Stanley honorably served in the U.S. Army, where as a corporal, he was stationed in California and later, Anchorage, Alaska. Mr.
He was an avid music fan – from Ancient to Zydeco – which he listened to passionately. As a drummer with Paul Stanley and His Music Makers, he and his fellow musicians worked the Boston nightclubs entertaining both the upscale and ordinary with their jazzy beat. At the christening of Mr. Stanley’s first born son, the bancd played in the living room of his Dorchester 2-family home. And event that became legendary with the neighbors.
In the early 1960’s, Mr. Stanley moved his family to Milford, leaving behind the bustle and excitement of the big city for better prospects. But he always reminded his loved ones to “never forget your roots” and wrote about this enthusiasm in his poetry which he framed and presented to his children.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Stanley is survived by his eight children: Barbara (Thomas) Fren of Milford, Jane (Walter) Chambers of Newport, RI, Elaine (James) Spinato of Hamden, Joan (Mario) Proto of Dublin, Ohio, David (Kathy) Stanley of Milford, Mark (Barbara) Stanley of Windsor, Karen (Scott) Cahill of Troy, NY and Ellen Stanley of West Haven. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grand children and was predeceased by an honorary “ninth” child, his dog Sleepy who was always there to help hand the American flag for every holiday.
