Fountain Hills, AZ — Paul J. Dwyer, 78, left this life on Wednesday, April 13, at Hospice of the Valley after losing his battle with lung cancer.
Mr. Dwyer is survived by a wife, Nancy Whitney Jones; three children: Sean Dwyer, Timothy Dwyer, and Daniel Dwyer; and his brother, Michael Dwyer. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Dillon, Griffin, Erin, Alex, and Chloe.
Paul was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a successful businessman. He grew up near Albany, New York, the son of Edward F. Dwyer and Eleanor Dwyer (McCann). After serving 10 years in the Air Force, he and his first wife, Rosemary, settled in Downers Grove, Illinois, where he ran the Yellow Submarine, a Chicago-style fast-food restaurant. They sold the business and moved the family to Scottsdale, Arizona. He purchased Cy’s Builder Supply and ran the business for more than 20 years before retiring.
Paul loved to work and after a short retirement became a residential builder and real-estate investor. In 2007 he met Nancy, and the two of them settled in North Phoenix before moving to Fountain Hills two years ago.
Paul will be remembered for his love of life, food, and work and for his sense of adventure. In his late 50s he bought his first Harley Davidson motorcycle. He traveled to Sturgis multiple times and took many weekend rides with his friends. His passion for food and hosting others brought friends and family together throughout his life. He was a helping hand to many. His customers, children, extended family, friends, and Fountain Hills men’s club members benefited from his generosity. Although he will be dearly missed, his legacy will live on through the people he touched.
