Paul Jackson Herring, Sr., 81, passed away in Newnan, GA on June 22, 2011 after a long & successful life. He was born September 26, 1929 in Geneva, AL to the late Robert & Lilly Herring, the third of four children. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lorraine E. Herring, his two brother, Robert Herring of St. Augustine, FL and Mack Herring of Bay St. Louis, MS, his brother-in-law Hugh Maddox of Carrollton, GA and his step-son John Gann of Birmingham, AL. He is survived by his three children: Paul J. Herring, Jr. & his wife Tanya of Lawrenceville, GA, Mark Herring & his wife Jennifer of Indiana, PA, and Barbara G. Waites & her husband Charles of Newnan, GA. He has eight grandchildren: Capt. Greg Waites & his wife Melissa of Fayetteville, NC, Bryan Waites & his wife Jennifer of Johns Creek, GA, Grant Herring and his wife Laura of Winder, GA, Clark & Aubrey Herring of Lawrenceville, GA, Ryan & Emily Herring of Indiana, PA and Aimee Wright & her husband Mike of Birmingham, AL. There are eight great-grandchildren: Abby & C.J. Waites, Joseph Waites, Connor Herring, John Daniel, Brandon, Alex & Nadaly Wright. He is also survived by sister, Mildred Maddox of Carrollton, GA and many nieces and nephews. Paul serviced in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Auburn University and remained a loyal War Eagle fan for all his life. He was with General Motors Corp. for 32 years, working primarily in the large truck division. He worked in the Atlanta office for many years and also in Charlotte, NC, Chattanooga, TN, and Dallas, TX where he was the truck center manager. He retired in 1987 and continued to enjoy friends, family, and football for the rest of his life. He will be missed by all who knew him.
