Paul J. DeGroot, 92, of Peru, died Friday, December 25, 2009 at LaSalle Healthcare Center. Mr. DeGroot was born on August 23, 1917 in Peru to John and Lucy (Meyers) DeGroot. He married Marie Frackowiak on May 21, 1938. She died on July 10, 1957. He then married Emeline Pairan in 1958. She died on January 18, 1990.
He worked at Westclox in Peru for 43 years as a Machine Operator. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Peru and helped start the Peru Rescue Station. He is survived by two sons Donald (Susan) DeGroot of Virginia Beach, Va, Edward Doc (Wanda) DeGroot of Peru; three daughters, Lois (Herb) Beattie Blackwell of LaMoille, Janet (Frank) Podobinski of Peru, and Paula (Ed) Spielman of Eau Claire, WI; 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Marie and his second wife Emeline; two sisters and two brothers.
