Paul Grubb of Westcliffe, Colorado, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022, after a brief illness. He was 62 years old.
Paul was an exceptional craftsman, who managed his own home remodeling business in the Denver area for most of his working years. His passion has always been all things mountain. He enjoyed hiking, backpacking, mountaineering, snowmobiling, and ATVing.
He retired in 2014, moving to Westcliffe, Colorado, where he eventually put his heart and soul into Custer County Search and Rescue. He served on the Board of Directors, was lead of the ATV team, and was the “Motor Sargent” as well as “Building Czar” overseeing and maintaining the vehicle fleet, and the SAR building. He was a quiet but strong leader, a problem solver, a “fixer”, and a guy who adored “His Girl” Suzanne. He loved a good road trip, was always fine-tuning his stellar photography skills, cranked it up to 11 when listening to a good guitar riff, was glad to share his appreciation of astronomy and telescopes, and was known to enjoy a fine whiskey after a day riding ATVs in the mountains that he loved. He touched many lives, often in quiet ways, and his presence will be greatly missed among his SAR family, his many close friends, and his family. He helped us all remember that we are better together.
Paul is survived by his wife, Suzanne Beck, his father, Lawrence Grubb, his sister, Cindy Stroud (Warren), his sister, Leticia Martin (Robert), aunts, cousins, and many close friends.
John Muir once said, “and into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.” That was the essence of Paul.
Rest in Peace, Paul.
