Paul Douglas (Doug) Brown, 73, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2013. Doug was born November 14, 1939, in Flint, MI to the late Paul H. and Gwyneth (Crewes) Brown.

He graduated from Midland High School in 1958. After working as an auto mechanic, Doug then completed certification as a welder/pipefitter at Hobart Welding School in Troy, OH. On May 18, 1963, he married the love of his life, Betty L. Horschig, at Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn, MI. They celebrated 46 years together before Betty’s passing in 2010. He worked out of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 816 as a journeyman welder, retiring in 1999 with over 30 years of service. For a short time in retirement, he enjoyed delivering parts for Circle Auto. Doug possessed a strong work ethic, keeping busy at home and working in the woods. He particularly enjoyed tinkering with cars, trucks, and tractors in his garage while listening to old country music, especially Johnny Cash. He also enjoyed helping friends find just the right “deal” and sharing his colorful sense of humor.

Doug loved his children and grandchildren with all of his heart, encouraging them to be the best they could be and to persevere. His friends and family will carry many memories of Doug: twirling Betty on the dance floor to their favorite polka, his strength through challenges, his insatiable sweet tooth, and his wry smile when he finished telling his favorite joke.

Doug is survived by two sons, Brian (Kathy) Brown of Midland and Darin (Jennifer) Brown of Northville; one daughter, Julie (Matthew) O’Connor of Midland; four grandchildren, Ethan and Emma Brown of Midland and Hayden and Jude Brown of Northville; sisters Gwyn (Jeffrey) Stolarczyk of Midland and Janet Federer (Bill Kendall) of Kissimmee FL; sister-in-law, Florence (Dale) Walter of Auburn; brothers-in-law, John (Deborah) Horschig of Midland and John (Tina) Precht of Artesia, CA. Doug is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
