Patty Lea Schmidt, 63 of Freeport passed away peacefully Sunday, December 12, 2010, at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport. Born March 19, 1947, in Freeport she was the daughter of William and Marjorie (Koehn) Schmidt. She was a graduate of Freeport Senior High School. Patty was formerly employed by Crum and Forster Insurance Co. for 28 years.
She worked the past 18 years at Freeport Senior High School as an administrative assistant to the associate principal. She was a member of Embury United Methodist Church. Patty enjoyed collecting various items over the years, especially McCoy pottery, rocks, and more recently ladybugs. She loved spending time outdoors watching birds and the beauty of nature. Over the years, she had great joy attending sporting events, musical programs, and church activities with her nieces and nephews. Most of all she loved her time spent with family, friends and the fun-loving spirit of the FHS staff.
Patty is survived by her brother, David (Kathy) Schmidt of Freeport; Brother -In – Law, Jim (Linda) Wean of Tennessee; Nephews, Jim Wean Jr. of Pearl City, John (Dawn) Wean of Huntley, IL, Cory Schmidt and Matthew Schmidt both of Freeport; Niece, Carley Schmidt of Platteville, WI; Great Nephews, Zachary Wean, Benjamin Wean both of Huntley, IL: Great-Niece, Adeline Wean of Pearl City; Aunts, Betty Koehn of Lena, and Kate Smith of California; special cousins, and extended family, Jim, Joy and Amelia Readeker, Freeport.
The FHS staff family, Crum and Forster family, Embury United Methodist Church family, and her special group of friends also meant the world to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Joyce Wean and niece Erin Jo Schmidt. In the end what matters is faith, family, and friends and she had all three.
