Patti April Butterbrodt, age 37, of North Atlantic Avenue, New Smyrna Beach, an artist, died Thursday at Oakwood Garden of DeLand.
Born in Daytona Beach, she was a lifetime resident of New Smyrna Beach, a graduate of New Smyrna Beach High School, and a student at Daytona Beach Community College for several years.
Paralyzed in a 1989 automobile accident, she became proficient at watercolors using a mouth stick. She exhibited in the DeLand Museum many times and had her own show at Bert Fish Medical Center. Her highest accolade was winning a slot in the Easter Seals contest against 25,000 competitors, and was awed by the knowledge that a stamp she designed went to 14 million homes.
Predeceased by her father, Jack A. Butterbrodt, and her brother, Jack Richard Butterbrodt, Patti is survived by her mother, Chela Butterbrodt of New Smyrna Beach, and her sister, Joanne McCall of Edgewater. Their untiring devotion and care helped Patti not only live, but to excel at life. She is also survived by her nephews, Jareck and Josh Butterbrodt of Edgewater.
