Patrick Wayne “Fats” “Fat Daddy” White, 49, of Florahome, passed from this life on Friday, November 5, 2021, at UF Health – Shands in Gainesville following a brief illness. Born in Palatka, Patrick was a lifelong resident of Putnam County. He graduated from Palatka High School in 1990 where he excelled in baseball and accepted a scholarship to play at St. Johns River Community College.
Patrick coached baseball at Interlachen High School from 2010-14. He was also a dedicated coach and supporter of Babe Ruth Baseball in Melrose and devoted his time to working with hundreds of youth and played an important role in developing not only their playing skills but their character as well. Patrick used his resources for the betterment of the program and was always looking for ways to provide needed equipment for the teams or lend a hand in the maintenance of the fields.
His impact on the Melrose Babe Ruth community was and will continue to be appreciated and remembered. Patrick had worked at Iluka Minerals (RGC) out of Green Cove Springs and from 2016 till his passing, at Twin Pines Minerals headquartered in Birmingham, AL. In addition to his passion for baseball, “Fats” also enjoyed fishing, hunting, football, dancing, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cubert White.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Debra Chao of Florahome, his children, Logan Cecil White and Lacie Marie White both of Florahome, Jeffery Don Slack of Jacksonville, Hunter Scott Chao, and Emma Faith Chao, both of Florahome, his mother, Mary Mullins White of Bristol, VA, a brother, Rusty Dewayne White (Teresa) of Ludowici, GA, nephews Gary Allen White of the Bahamas and Shane William White (Shae) and their son, Axel White of Glennville, GA, paternal aunt and uncle, Patricia Cornelio and Eddie (Bobby) Cornelio of Florahome and maternal aunt, Patricia Mullins of Hollister.
