Patricia Rae (Pat) Cheney, 67, of Nampa, ID, passed away at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Nampa, ID on November 14, 2021, due to the complications following a short and sudden unknown illness.
Pat was born in Nampa, ID on March 23, 1954, to Orren Duane Frost and Julia Rae Webb Frost. She was the baby of the family and was welcomed home by 11-year-old big sister Becky, and 11-month-old big brother, Bill. The family resided in Huston, Idaho from 1954 until 1961 where Pat attended 1st and 2nd grades at Huston Elementary School. From 1961 – 1964 the family lived in Caldwell where she finished grades 3-6 at Marble Front Elementary. Finally, the family settled in Nampa where she attended school from 7th to 12th grade. She graduated from Nampa High School with the class of 1972.
Pat went on to attend Ricks college for one year and then, because it was too far to be away from each other, Pat came home to marry her high school sweetheart, Blair Calvin Nay. They were married on July 7, 1973, in the Ogden, Utah Temple.
Pat and Blair made their home in Nampa, ID. They were blessed with 3 children within the first 6 years of their marriage. Heather LeAnn was born in 1974, Kendrick Calvin (K.C.) in 1976 and finally Kyle Duane in 1979. They raised their children to love the outdoors. They spent time together in the mountains of Idaho fishing, camping, and snowmobiling. Her children have inherited her ability to drive the canyon to McCall faster than they should. Always the hostess, Pat usually invited friends to go along with the Nays. Many memories were made and laughed about for years afterward. Snow in June, lost shoes in the river, bear scares, frogs in the outhouse, BMX bike jumping accidents, being pulled over on a snowmobile, and countless others.
As she was raising her children Pat worked for the family construction business for a period of time and then began a daycare in her home. She inherited the love of children from her mother. She was a beloved “daycare mom” to dozens of children from 1979 to 1995. She stayed connected with many of them and would continue to refer to them as “her kids” even when they were grown with children of their own.
Following the passing of Blair, Pat changed careers and began working for the Canyon County Courts in Caldwell, Id. She worked there, in various positions, from 1995 until her retirement as Lead Clerk in 2019. She made many lifelong friends at the courthouse and continued to keep in touch with them even after her retirement.
Pat spent her off time totally devoted to her children and grandchildren. She attended sporting events, concerts, plays, and any other activity or program they were involved in. She sent them cards for each birthday and any holiday you can imagine. At the time of her passing her stack of Thanksgiving cards was already out and ready to be addressed. She was an instant babysitter, the on-call nurse, and always a listening ear. Her grandchildren loved their “Nonnie.” Her home was full of toys and teddy bears and hugs and laughter. She spoiled them and we let her.
After living as a widow for 13 years Pat was introduced to the next love of her life by a lifelong friend, Ann Broderick. After a whirlwind courtship, she married Ann’s brother, Steven John Cheney on December 1st, 2007. With this marriage she added 5 bonus children and even more instant grandchildren.
Pat inherited a love of gardening from her father and the outside of her home was always immaculate and beautiful. In addition, the inside of her home was always decorated with the changing of the seasons and holidays. Her walls were adorned with family heirlooms and pictures of her loved ones.
Pat was preceded in death by her father, Orren Frost, her first husband Blair Nay, her brother-in-law, Brent Harris, and her sister-in-law, Mona Frost. She is survived by her husband, Steve Cheney, her mother, Julia Frost, her sister, Becky Harris, and her brother Bill (Grace) Frost. She also leaves behind her children, Heather Longoria, KC (Crystal) Nay, Kyle (Mariah) Nay and her bonus children Stephanie (Jacob) Smith, Jessica Osborne, Maggie (Greg) Starley, Cade (Cariann) Cheney, and Josh (Lisa) Cheney. She will be sorely missed by 22 grandchildren: Kamron (Olivia), Bethany, and Tessa Nay, Aleja, Ariel, and T.J. Longoria, Devon Nay, Madison and Zachary Smith, Torrey Stuckey, Jaden and Daxton Osborne, London, Brooklyn, and Sydney Starley, Peyton, Claire, and Grayson Cheney, and Jett, Stella, and Ollie Cheney.
