Patricia Marie Martha (Oney) Rickard was born July 18, 1928 in Polk County, Iowa. She was the fourth child born to Harvey Oney and Alta Jane (Moore) Oney. Pat died November 4, 2014 at the Southern Hills Specialty Care Center in Osceola, Iowa.
Pat married Raymond Rickard, November 15, 1947 in Bentonville, Arkansas. They were married at the home of Mrs. Ginn, a friend of her mother and father. Pat and Raymond were married fifty-seven years prior to Raymond’s death in 2004. No children were born to this union, however, several generations of children; relatives, friends, neighbors and school children became a part of the couple’s lives.
Pat and Raymond farmed their Century farm in English Township of Lucas County. Pat graduated from Chariton High School in 1945, took the Normal Training for a Rural School Teachers and began teaching in 1946. She taught into the 1950’s at several country schools in the area. Prior to her marriage, Pat Oney taught at Hickory Hill-Strahn (Liberty Twp.#1) and Frye (Liberty Twp. #6). After her marriage, she taught at Frye (Liberty Twp.#6), Renfo Center (English Twp.#5) and Center (Washington Twp.#6). She was a gifted and enthusiastic teacher who looked for the individual strengths in each child she taught.
