Obituary of Patricia Marie Busch

Age 94, lifelong resident of Saint Paul, MN died on Monday, April 30, 2018.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Busch, her sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Edward Reimer, infant grandson, Robert Gerlach, and son-in-law, James O’Leary. She is survived by her children: Patricia (Don) Gerlach, Denise O’Leary (Fred Heisler), William Busch, Jr., David (Gail) Busch, Caroline Busch, Maria (Bob) Tripp, Kevin Busch (Susan Wyble), and Katy (Tim) Scallen. 25 grandchildren (Richard, Matthew, and David Gerlach; Megan, Shannon, Katherine, Jennifer, and Claire O’Leary; David, Jr., Andrew, Rebecca, Nicholas, Jonathan, and Sarah Busch; Eric, Angela, and Christopher Frid; Christina and Alexandra Tripp; Patrick and Michael Busch; and Tim, Catherine, Erin, and Colleen Scallen) will miss their grandmother who always had a lap upon which to sit and helped with many a costume, school project, and French translation. Pat’s 27 great-grandchildren were equally blessed to know her and will continue to hear the “Grandma Busch” tales. Pat graduated from Derham Hall High School (1942) and the College of St. Catherine (1946). Majoring in Art and French, she won a scholarship to study at the Sorbonne in Paris, but turned down the honor in favor of marrying our Dad, Bill Busch, on December 26, 1946. It was a snowy day and Mom slipped on the ice as she arrived at the church. Never one to be deterred, she dusted off her wedding dress and entered the church with a smile on her face. Pat’s family gratefully acknowledges her dedicated caregivers: Abby Cole, Christle Carey, and Maggie Bartee. These amazing women lived with our Mom for the last three years, allowing her to remain in her own home where she enjoyed doing the cross-word puzzle, playing Scrabble, visiting with family members every day, and going to Mass. Rest in peace Mom, you raised us on a steady diet of good food, good example, and quiet determination. We are grateful for the years we had with you. Family, caregivers, and friends are invited to join us for services.
