Patricia “Pat” Cardinal (Venable) went to join her beloved Sheltie, Buppy over the Rainbow Bridge on Monday April 30, while surrounded by her loved ones.Along with Buppy, Pat was reunited with her parents, Ralph and Cordelia (Wheatley) Venable, her son Kurt Cardinal and her grandson Jay McKinley Sr.

Pat was born at home on August 3, 1935. She spent much of her youth traveling the country with her parents as her dad built greenhouses.  After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1954 she joined the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged for medical reasons. In 1976 she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Vincennes University with a degree in Computer Programming. Pat spent many years as an EMS dispatcher, first with Halter-Smith and retiring from Knox County EMS in 2007. What Pat truly did with her life was love and care for her family and those she chose as family. She loved and protected them fiercely.

She is survived by her daughter, Dwana Cain. Her grandchildren; Joel and Tara Cardinal, Shannon and Andrew Kitzman, Nicholas and Chelsea Johnson, Samuel Cain, and Will and Laura McKinley.  Also by the great-grandchildren she adored so much; Molly, Emma, Willow, Waylon, Cordelia, Malone, and Landon. She is also missed greatly by her nephew Joe Street, her pseudo grandkids; Jody Smith, Danielle McDonough and Dani Padgett, and her best friend Donna Bailey. She made the world a better place by instilling in this family a love of reading and books. She will be missed by so many. Her wit and sarcasm, as well as her open mind and intelligence made everyone she met either love or hate her, either way she made an impression. Her absence may be most strongly felt by the B Sci-Fi movie industry, as they have lost their biggest fan.
