Patricia Doyle Lungi, 79, of Trumbull, went home to the Lord Dec. 10, 2021, after a brief illness.
“Patty Jo” was born in Bridgeport to Joseph M. Doyle, longtime owner of the Doyle’s Grille Irish pub on East Main Street, and Patricia Flood Doyle.
She was a standout musical actress in Warren G. Harding High School’s Dramatics troupe, performing the lead female roles of Polly in “The Boy Friend,” Adelaide in “Guys and Dolls,” and other productions.
In the early 1960s, she brought her acting talent to New York City, where she pursued a Broadway career under the stage name “Donovan Doyle.” There, she befriended the notable street musician Louis “Moondog” Hardin.
When Patricia married and became a homemaker, she raised four children in a house in Trumbull. Children and neighbors would hear her calling out the kitchen door to corral her children for supper each day. She always offered extra places at the table for friends.
Patricia was an absolute and true friend to any who were lucky enough to have befriended her, praying for hours each day for each one of them without them even knowing.
She put her mathematical and financial savvy to practice in the Trumbull Tax Collector’s Office. Later in her career, she earned lincensure as a real estate agent and insurance agent, then worked many years in retail sales.
Patricia was a prolific writer and journalist, working for the then-Post-Telegram newspaper in Bridgeport in the early 1960s, then for several publications in Saint Augustine, Florida, where she lived with her husband, Louis Lungi.
In her later years, without needing to be asked, she assumed the role of sole and full-time caretaker to her favorite uncle, Lawrence Flood, making the trip across town without transportation of her own seven days a week for many years. She spent 10 hours each day by his side.
She was a devoted fan of John Wayne, George Burns and Jackie Gleason, having kept a personal letter from the latter for decades, until her dying day.
She is mourned and already missed by her children, Michael Doyle Patrick and his wife, Jiawei He, of Milford; Laurie Kaye Patrick Nagy and her husband, William, of Trumbull; William Flood Patrick and his wife, Anne, of Palestine, Texas; and Kevin Daniels Patrick and his wife, Carolyn, of Grand Saline, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchidren, Steven, Rachel, Ryan, Audrey, Katherine, Nathan and Kenneth.
Patricia was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her uncle.
