Patricia Louise Davis Chang, 76, of New Castle, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Franciscan Health Hospital, Lafayette.
She was born at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on October 3, 1945 to the late Russell E. Mildred Opal Hayes Davis. On May 22, 1965, she married Ting Pao Chang (b.1933 – d.2019) in Indianapolis.
Patricia graduated Valedictorian from Purdue University in 1968 and soon after earned her Master of Psychology Degree and Nursing Certification.
Patricia worked primarily as a psychiatric R.N. from 1973 – 1994 in Indiana at various hospitals: the IU Medical Research Center, LaRue Carter, New Hope, Valley Vista, and Charter Lafayette. She finished her career at St. Vincent Hospital Youth Stress Center and a short time in cardiology. She was also a member of St. Luke Catholic Church, Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Augustine Home, and a member of the Secular Franciscan Order.
Patricia’s life was defined by many facets, though most clearly by her love for her family, children, and pets. She majored in German and minored in French at Purdue, and she visited both countries in 1972. She travelled to Taiwan in 1976, England in 1988, and China in 2003 and 2005. Her domestic travels were also extensive. She was an ardent advocate of cultural diversity, world travel, environmental conservation, education, youth mental health, and stewardship through community work. She rejuvenated her spirit through walks in nature and all the beautiful parks in Indiana, and found peace near the ocean. She was a voracious reader of all genres, particularly mystery and spy fiction. She had a vast appreciation for live and recorded music, movies, TV series, and shopping. She celebrated and expressed her life experiences and memories through her own poetry, stories, crafts, photography, painting, and family holiday traditions. Patricia Chang was herself a force of nature who fought with strength and courage to the very end.
Patricia is survived by her children Laura E. (James) Hodges of West Lafayette, Thomas E. (Isabelle) Chang of Orlando, Marianne E. Chang of Edison, NJ, and grandchildren Jonathan Hodges, Emily Hodges, Michael Hodges, Samuel Hodges, Maxwell Hodges, Madeline Kong, Calliope Poette-Chang, and Benjamin Kong. She was preceded in death by her parents, Opal H. Davis and Russell E. Davis, and her beloved brother Ted Boldt.
