Patricia Johnston Smith, a lifelong resident of Newnan, passed away at her residence on April 5, 2016. She was born on August 8, 1929, and was one of four children born to the late William Howard and Florence Ada Chandler Johnston.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings William Howard (Buddy) Johnston and Nina Johnston, and a grandchild Elizabeth Smith. Pat received her education in the Newnan City Schools and attended nursing school at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta. She was later a nurse at Newnan Hospital. She married Lee Hampton Smith on May 22, 1948, and for the next 67 years, she was his faithful companion. They were loyal members of Newnan First United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Melissa Smith, Cindy (and Bill) Yeager, Hamp (and Patty) Smith, Angela Alexander, and Patrick (and Susan) Smith. There are eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Edwin Johnston.
