Patricia Minjarez

She is an angel. She had a beautiful mind and generous heart. She had an amazing ability to make other people smile even when she was dealing with her own problems. She truly believed she could learn something from everyone she met.

Patricia Ann Hensley Minjarez was born in Canadian, Texas on January 19, 1953 and passed away at her home in Alamogordo, NM on April 28, 2018. She was the next to the youngest of 9 children born to Guy Clifford and Erma(Gantz) Hensley, Patricia grew up on the family farm in Durham, Ok. and graduated from Reydon High School in 1971. She then attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Ok. on a ROTC scholarship. When she graduated with her B.A. degree, she served in the United States Army for 4 years. Following her service in the Army, Patricia worked as an auditor for the United States Air Force in numerous places, including the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and also at Holloman Air Force in Alamogordo, NM. As a child, Patricia was a Southern Baptist and later attended a Pentacostal Church with a friend. After her marriage to lee, she became an active member of the congregation at St. Jude’s Catholic Church. Her final church home was Grace United Methodist Church. She had a personal relationship with God and lived her life as a Christian. Patricia married lee Minjarez on Valentine’s Day in 1982 and became an instant mother to his two daughters, Cindy lee and Terri lynn lee and Patricia built their dream home in Alamogordo, planning, designing and doing most of the construction themselves. They even made their own adobe bricks. Following her retirement from the Air Force, Patricia was active in many organizations including the GCRMC Auxiliary where she served as treasurer for 7 years, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks lodge 1897 where she was the organist, and the AO Chapter of the PEO.

She enjoyed traveling with her many friends. In recent years she went on several tours within the United States and accompanied the Traveling Elks on some of their trips. She took several trips to Germany and enjoyed a river cruise on the Rhine. She also cruised to many other destinations including Alaska, Canada, Mexico, many Caribbean islands, New Zealand, and Australia. Whenever she went she made new friends and brought smiles to the faces of all those around her.

Patricia was preceded in death by lee on July 5, 2012. Also preceding her were her parents, Guy and Erma Hensley; sisters Karen Hensley, Vondell Allbright, and Winonia Jones; and brothers Quinlin Hensley and Dale Hensley.

She is survived by her daughters, Terri Lynn (Brad) Prechtl in Bradenton, Florida and Cindy Lee Schiro in Houston, Texas; grandchildren Remington, Caleb, and Moriah; and brothers Addie (Norma) Hensley of Pampa, Tx, Ronald (Darlene) Hensley of Durham, Ok. and Glen (Sherry) Hensley, of High Rolls, NM, Also surviving are many nieces, nephew, and cousins.
