Patricia Ann (Hummer) McNeely, born on December 12, 1935 passed away at the age of 81 in the loving hands of her family at her home in Ventura, California on the morning of August 26, 2017. Born in Chanute, Kansas to Earl and Hazel Hummer, Patti was the youngest of nine children. The family moved to Monterey Park California in 1947 where Earl was looking for work in the oilfields. Unable to find any work there her father moved to Maricopa working for Mobil Oil Company. Patti and her mother remained in Monterey Park until her graduation from Mark Keppel High School. After graduating they joined her dad in Maricopa and she attended Taft Junior College. It was while attending Taft College, she met her future husband Frank McNeely. Patti was a beautiful cheer leader for the Taft College football team and caught Frank’s eye. Once they began dating, the two never parted. It is almost impossible to talk about our mom without talking about our dad. Just as it would be impossible to talk about dad without talking about mom. Their relationship was special, a love that has lasted a lifetime. Together they raised three children, Susan (Wilson), Doug and Jeff. Growing up for the kids meant always doing something together as a family. Great memories and lasting friendships developed out of Montalvo Little League, Pop Warner Football, Ridge Riders Motorcycle Club and camping trips to Shaver and San Antonio lakes, or to Ballinger Canyon or the desert to go motorcycle riding. Whatever was happening, mom was in the middle of it keeping things organized and everyone fed. Later, after we children had moved out of the house, mom and dad joined the Cal Tex Motorcycle Club and they would be off on one of their annual runs or riding with some of their friends from the club. Patricia was very active in the community. She spent many years organizing and running the little league snack bar, and coaching the cheerleaders for the Pop Warner teams. She also spent many years caretaking for relatives as they declined in health. Mom also enjoyed work. After moving to Ventura, mom started doing bookkeeping for Glover Enterprises. When Mac Glover retired, mom went to work first for Kimball Toppers and for the past 17 years, she had been the bookkeeper at Camlan Farms in Camarillo. Holidays were a very special time for mom. She loved decorating the house inside and out. You knew you were part of the family when she presented you with your own custom stocking. She has made close to 100 of them. Growing up in a large family, she learned how to sew. Over the years she made clothes for us kids, outfits for our choir group, cheerleading outfits, the list goes on and on. Mom was also a great cook and loved to bake for family and friends. Patricia was a beautiful, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. Her smile and laugh will be missed by so many. Patricia is preceded in death by her parents and ail 8 of her siblings. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Frank, her daughter Susan Wilson and husband Darrell, her son Douglas and wife Kamala, and son Jeff and wife Debbie. She also will be missed by her 9 grandchildren, Eric (Daleray), Kristin, Lindsey (Dustin), Darrell (Tiffany), Nick (Traci), Karleigh (Max), Isabella, Paige and Peyton and 6 great-grandchildren, Dyllan, Kaitlynn, Taylor, Ashleigh, Drake and Max to whom she was affectionately known as “Granny” and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice, the floor nurses at Ventura Community Memorial Hospital, special friends Jacquie Cox, Lynette and Arthur Robertson for all the love and care you gave to mom during this time.
