Patricia A. Tarrant June 18, 1951- December 23, 2020Patricia Ann Tarrant, 69, passed away peacefully in her home on December 23, 2020 after a courageous 5-month battle with brain cancer. Pat was a 1969 graduate of Southfield High School in Southfield, MI. She later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Emotionally Impaired from Central Michigan University in 1973, a Master’s in Education Learning Disabilities from Grand Valley State in 1995 and another Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology from Bridgewater State University in was a Special Education teacher in Houghton Lake and COOR Intermediate for 19.5 years, Carver Schools for 3 years, Remington Middle School in Franklin for 5 years. She then taught Computer Science at Remington Middle School for 14 years. She was a passionate educator for 42 years and truly loved her life’s will fondly be remembered as a woman who enjoyed family, friends, gardening, a good book, a tried-and-true recipe, and knitting. She frequently attended her grandson’s baseball and football games and granddaughters dance recitals. She was the first one you would call if you needed a batch of cookies, something mended or sewn, or an ear to listen. One of her favorite activities was to get breakfast and walk the Cape Cod Canal.After her retirement in 2011 Pat enjoyed becoming a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She and Barb traveled the world with the Travel Group “Camp Jackie” to such places as Greece, Turkey, the Azores, Spain, Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Russia, Canada, Croatia, and Bosnia. They also vacationed annually to Aruba and is survived by her loving spouse of 16 years, Barbara Hurney. She and Barb met in 1970 while working at Camp Wind in the Pines in Plymouth where Pat was hired as a lifeguard. This resulted in a 50-year friendship and later marriage. Pat & Barb were married after the State of Massachusetts enacted the law acknowledging same sex marriages in May 2004. There was a private ceremony held at their home in June by a Justice of the Peace followed by a church service and blessing in August at Christ Church Parish in Plymouth. Their relationship was a true gift to all those who knew them. Pat is survived by her two sons, Gabe Tarrant (Brandy) and Aaron Tarrant (Angie) of Michigan. Also left to cherish her memory are Barb’s son Michael Hurney, daughter Lynne Rogan (Sean) and six beautiful grandchildren; Mikayla, Dylan, Joseph, Jack, Grace of Plymouth MA and Sarah of Michigan, as well as several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her brothers Charles V. Mack (Barbara) of Howell Michigan and Thomas J. Mack (Brenda) of Highland Michigan; Barb’s brothers Jay P. Byrne (Lanita) of Virgina, Gerald A. Byrne (Margie) of Plymouth, brother-in-law Phillip Radspinner of MO, and dear friends and travel companions Rhonda & Roger Whitlock of Michigan. Pat was pre-deceased by her mother Frances Jane Hamet and father Miles Roswell Mack of Michigan, Barb’s brothers Kenneth E. Byrne (Jean) and Michael J. Byrne.
