Pastor Steven Maxie, 62, of Greenwood, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. He was born to Horace and Ruby (Riggs) Maxie Roach on August 1, 1956 in Kokomo, Indiana.
Steve started preaching at the young age of 17. He married his lifetime sweetheart, Laura (Covey) Maxie on November 18, 1978 in Coloma, MI. They would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this coming Sunday.
Steve was the pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Greenwood for 15 years. He previously served as the pastor of Landmark Baptist Church in Indianapolis for 13 years.
Steve loved playing the guitar and piano. He enjoyed singing and preaching the word of God. His sons referred to him as the Godfather of preachers. Steve loved watching John Wayne and war movies.
Steve was a very compassionate person. He never turned away anyone in need; whether they needed money for food, gas, or bills, Steve would always do his best to help them out.
Steve loved spending time with his family and friends no matter what the occasion was. Steve was loved by everyone who knew him.
Steve is survived by his wife Laura Maxie of Greenwood, his mother; Ruby Roach of Arkansas, his sons; Steven Maxie II of Greenwood, Adam Maxie of Greenwood, and Caleb Maxie of Greenwood, his sister; Cindy (Ronald) Boyd of Arkansas, and his two granddaughters; Rachel and Elizabeth Maxie.
Steve was preceded in death by his father; Horace Maxie.
