The family will be receiving family and friends at the residence, 403 Torrington Road, Eutawville, South Carolina, 29048 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM daily.
Pastor Shirley Small-Gillens Life Reflections
Pastor Shirley Delores Small-Gillens (Mother, Sister, Grandma, Auntie, and Friend) passed away September 17, 2023, at MUSC Medical University, surrounded by her family. A long time resident of Eutawville, SC, Columbia, SC, and Philadelphia, PA, she lived the remainder of her life surrounded by her six siblings.
Born in Orangeburg County, South Carolina on October 2, 1952, to Solomon Small Sr. and Estelle Goff-Small. She was part of the baby boomers generation. She attended public school in the Orangeburg County public school system. Pastor Shirley Smalls -New Harvest in Christ- gave her life to Christ in 1994. As a pastor, Shirley touched the lives of many through her ministry. She preached messages of hope, forgiveness, and love, inspiring others to live out their faith in every aspect of their lives. Her spiritual leadership brought comfort and solace to those facing challenges or seeking guidance. She also worked as a seamstress and home health provider.
Shirley’s commitment to her community led her to serve on the Eutawville town council. She dedicated herself to advocating for equal rights and opportunities for all individuals. She was a pillar of strength and guidance for her daughters and grandchildren, always offering words of wisdom and unconditional love. Her home was filled with warmth and laughter, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Shirley was a woman with a heart full of love and a smile that brightened any room she entered. She dedicated her life to caring for her family and spreading joy to those around her. Shirley had a warm personality and was always there for anyone who needed support or a listening ear.
As a mother, Shirley’s love and devotion were unparalleled. She raised her children with strength and grace, instilling in them values that would guide them throughout their lives. Shirley cherished every moment she spent with her grandchildren, spoiling them with affection and making sure they knew they were loved beyond measure.
She is preceded in death by her father, Solomon Small Sr., mother, Estelle Goff-Small, and a brother, Solomon A. Small.
From her union to John, she leaves to cherish her precious memories: two children: Angela S. Walker (Jerry) and Samantha Gillens; grandchildren: Chante M. Avinger, Antonio D. J. Gillens, Noah X. M. Jimerson, Jeremiah B. Walker, Tiana T. S. Jimerson, Rena Walker, Nathaneal Walker, Adaiah Walker, and Michael L. Jimerson. She is survived by her siblings: John R. Small (Annette), Edward C. Small, Edwin C. Small, Tony Small, and Wilhelmena Small and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
