Joseph Maurice Louissaint was born in Port au Prince, Haiti on October 29, 1934. He was the fourth of twelve children of Vertus Louissaint and Claricile Exceance Louissaint. Maurice was 17 years old when his father passed, leaving him and his older brother Gaston to care for the family. He grew up watching his mother participating in missionary outings throughout the city and the hill tops, bringing many souls to Christ and began following in her footsteps by evangelizing.
