RALEIGH – Pastor Jasper Benton “JB” Ellis Jr., 64, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. Pastor J.B. was born on August 21, 1956 to the late Pastor Jasper Benton “J.B.” Ellis Sr. and Lillian Ellis in Lakeland Florida. He served as a Pastor for local churches for 43 years of which the past 6 years were spent serving at Evangel Assembly of God in Durham, NC. He was a dedicated Pastor and lived the life he preached. Pastor J.B. was an extremely caring man who loved people. His excitement for music and community led to him being a guitar teacher and the President of five bowling leagues. With a passion for God’s mission, he traveled the world spending his time building schools, orphanages, and churches. His most beloved pastime was spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren) enjoying a good burger or taking a trip to Starbucks for a Matcha Green Tea Frappuccino! Pastor J.B. was a compassionate, kind, generous and selfless man. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, three girls, grandchildren, church family, and the many lives blessed by him.
Pastor J.B. is survived by his loving wife of 45 years in June, Sherrill Ellis; daughters, Michelle Carillet (Daniel), Sarah Owen (John), and Jennifer Chavis (Eddie); son, Melvin Crawford (Tyringa); brother, Bart Ellis (Mona); sisters, Elaine Ellis, Debra Bercaw (Randy), and Angela Pulley; six grandchildren; and numerous other loving family members and friends.
