Pastor David Francis Sellers of Sedan Kansas passed away Sunday April 22, 2018 at Pleasant Valley Manor after a long struggle with multiple myeloma. David was born on January 18, 1945 in Payette, Idaho to John and Beatrice (Sears) Sellers. He graduated from Payette High School and then attended Treasure Valley Community College of Ontario, Oregon. He was an all-star basketball player for his high school and in college won the Oregon State Junior College Championship. During these years he worked for Wells and Davie’s Meat Packing and Idaho Power placing power poles throughout the mountains of Idaho.  He then attended 4 years at International Bible College in San Antonio, Texas. There he met his wife Lavena Rhae Ahrens. They were married August 11, 1968 in Twin Falls, Idaho.

While in San Antonio, Texas he worked for Automotive Research and Reavis Drywall. He also helped in the building of a new church, Revival Temple. There he spent years in ministry as Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, and was in charge of the inner-city street ministry in San Antonio.

From San Antonio, he, Lavena and their daughter TaeRee moved to Columbus, Ohio. In Columbus David was the Assistant Pastor of New Covenant Church as well as teacher’s aide at the church’s Christian school for several years. He and his family then moved to Elyria, Ohio where he preached for several more years. While there he and Lavena became foster parents.

In 1986 David and his family moved to Angus, Nebraska where he founded the church Little Blue Christian Fellowship. The church building had been a generous gift from the Wilma Jones family. He preached in Nebraska for around 25 years. He and Lavena also opened the Old Bank Coffee Shop in Nelson, Nebraska where he taught Bible studies. While in Nebraska David worked for various ranchers and farmers, Nelson City Dump, and C&M Supply painting propane tanks. During these years he and Lavena took in foster children and even the homeless. In January 1999 David and Lavena adopted four children.

In 2011 David and his family moved to Sedan, Kansas to be near their daughter TaeRee. David became the Sunday School teacher for the Assembly of God Church of Sedan. He was also a librarian for the Sedan Public Library; a job the he greatly enjoyed.

In March David’s four siblings John Sellers of Oregon; Susan Perry of Washington, Diane Campbell and husband Dave of Washington and Richard Sellers and his wife Shaunna of Idaho all arrived.

David will be missed by his wife Lavena Rhae Ahrens Sellers and his children TaeRee Marie Sellers Glover and son-in-law Cary Glover and four grandchildren David DeWayne, Albert Neal, Jonathan Allen Wayne, and Annie Maire Glover; daughter Nichole Helen Marie, and sons Christopher John, Cody Albert; and Stephen Phillip Sellers.

David was preceded in death by his parents John Arthur Sellers and Beatrice Frances Sears Sellers.
