Pamela Kay (Akers) Welker was called home on September 11, 2021, at Ascension St. Vincent Anderson after an extended illness. Pamela “Pammy” was born on July 31, 1954, in Elwood, IN to Billy and Catherine Akers. She gave her life to Christ and was a member of Central Christian Church in Anderson.

Pam attended Central Avenue and Washington Elementary Schools, Southside Junior High, and graduated from Madison Heights High School, Class of 1972. She was accepted into Ball State University, to major in Education. She obtained her B.S. degree in 1978 and her M.S. in 1984. She taught school at Robinson, Southview, and Erskine Elementary. In 2002, she became a certified Reading Recovery Specialist. Pam found joy and satisfaction in her teaching career. She was dedicated to finding fun new ways to help students learn.

Pam found happiness in shopping, traveling, fashion, and dining out. She never met a stranger and was loved by those whose paths she crossed. She absolutely loved the Christmas holidays and everything about it. The gift of giving to her family and friends brought her joy and fulfillment.

Pam leaves to cherish her memory, her only son Nick Gilmore and his fiance, BeaJe Motley; siblings, Steve Akers, Jana Lovett, Jeff Akers, Marc Akers, Susan Wells, and Joseph Akers; grandchildren, Ariea Gilmore, Mateo Crawford, Keira Gilmore, Layla Gilmore, and Jerika Carter; and her dearest longtime friend, Vicki Lierman.

Pam is preceded in death by her beloved father and mother; stepmother, Marilyn Akers, and Aunt Evelyn Jarrett.
