Pamala Kaye Fowler, a longtime resident of Lansing, died peacefully on July 4, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer. She was 79 years old. Pam was born on December 5, 1944 in Owosso, Michigan, the sole child of George and Irma Fowler. She was a 1963 graduate of Ovid High School, earned her associates degree from Lansing Community College and a bachelor’s degree in urban development from Michigan State University. Pam worked for the Lansing State Library for the Blind, drove the Shiawassee County Book Mobile, worked for the City of Lansing, worked for the Physically Impaired Association of Michigan and for Lansing Community College.Pamala was the embodiment of ambition and independence, crafting a life for herself that was filled with purpose and joy. Her involvement in various organizations and causes was a testament to her zest for life and her commitment to making a difference. She held the position of President of Volunteers of America in Lansing, was an active member of the Red Hat Society, and played an instrumental part in the organization of the Capital City Riverfest in the late ‘80s, a weekend she looked forward to all year long. She was a dedicated member of her church, Grace United Methodist Church in Lansing. Her hobbies included needlework, sewing her own clothes, artistic flower design, and refurbishing items. Pamala was always busy and involved, a testament to her outgoing and fun nature. She was a fervent advocate of fun, a word she cherished and embodied in everything she did. She enjoyed attending MSU football games, and she cherished time spent watching her family’s sporting and dance events. Some of her favorite times were planning, decorating for and hosting the Fourth of July party on Higgins Lake. Pam always prioritized her small, tight-knit family. She was a beacon of strength, resilience, and independence, constantly striving to create a fulfilling life for herself and those around her.She is survived by her aunt, Lois Curtis as well as many generations of cousins who loved her dearly; her Red Hat society friends, Ovid class of ’63, her church friends and many others. She was preceded in death by her parents.
