P. Roy Turner, 67, of Jacksonville, IL passed away October 30, 2018, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born September 22, 1951 in Jacksonville, the son of Prentice P. and Jeanette Turner. He married Sandra “Sandy” Hayes on December 30, 1986 and she survives.
He is also survived by five children, Rachel Vitale (Gianni) of Pittsfield, Kyle Turner (Emily Large) of Jacksonville, Kurt Turner (Molly) of Normal, and two step sons, Bryan Watts of Jacksonville and Darren Watts (Jody Basham) of Winchester; eight grandchildren, Cheyenne Watts, Charlotte Watts, Brenden Clanton, Dawson Clanton, Nevaeh Stevens, Zaiden Turner, Lynox Turner, and Benedetto Vitale; two siblings, Sheila Edmonds and Kenneth Ray Turner, both of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lela Hurst.
A 1970 graduate of Jacksonville High School, P. Roy served in the US Army from 1970-1973 during the Vietnam Conflict. He returned to Jacksonville and was employed by Anderson-Clayton Foods, Moeller Ready Mix, Welborn Electric, Butch Wood Septic Service, and L.W. Rouland Trucking prior to joining the City of Jacksonville. He was employed for 20 years with the City Street Department and later the Water Department.
In his spare time, P. Roy enjoyed serving as a rodeo clown for Ray Cox, playing golf or fishing with friends, and relaxing on the sand of Myrtle Beach with a cold beer in hand.
