Baynes, Jr. Owen was born in South Boston, Virginia to the late Orie and Ida Baynes. He served in the United States Army from 1942-1945 and was a Purple Heart recipient in 1947. He worked as an administrator for the Department of Defense for over 40 years. He enjoyed gardening tomatoes and grapes, traveling, and nature walks.
