Owen Asa “Bud” Rumley, Jr., age 86, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls, Montana. He was born on December 25, 1921 at Eureka, Montana the son of Owen Asa and Phoebe (Vardie) Rumley, Sr.

He attended schools in Somers and attended Flathead High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1939 and served during WWII and was involved in the Battle of New Guinea. He was honorably discharged in 1944.

He was married to Mary Ellen Rumley and Ruth Buls.

He owned and operated the Texaco station in Somers; worked as a driller in Montana, Wyoming, Alaska and Saudi Arabia over the years. He also served on the Somers Volunteer Fire Department and was Assistant Chief for many years. He was also active on the Water and Planning Boards in Somers for several years.

He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed welding, drawing and carving. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star and the Shriners all of Bigfork.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen Asa and Phoebe Ann Rumley, and sisters, Alberta “Mickey” Orphan and Alma Graves.

 He is survived by his son Owen A. Rumley, III and wife Jhona of Seoul, South Korea; Mary “Kit” Leong  and husband Ken of Santa Clara, CA; Kevin Rumley and wife Pam of San Jose, CA and Lisa Rumley Komer of Niarada, MT; and grandchildren, Jennifer Christenson of Middlefield, CT; David Rumley of Oakland, CA; Christopher Leong of Santa Clara, CA; Jacqueline Leong of San Diego, CA; Megan Rumley of San Jose, CA; Sarah Rumley of San Jose, CA; Jessica Culver and Jake Culver  both of Kalispell, MT;  great-grandchildren, Eli and Emily Christenson of Middlefield, CT; Bud is also survived by the Buls family.
