Ouida Donaldson, 96, Deming resident passed away Sunday August 21, 2011 at Arbor’s of Del Rey in Las Cruces.

Ouida a spunky lady who lived life to the fullest! She was born in Memphis, Tennessee along with a twin brother, James. She was orphaned at the age of two and raised by aunt Dadie and uncle Ed. She lived in Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas and New Mexico. She went to school in Las Cruces but graduated from high school in Dallas, TX.

She met C Ray Donaldson at New Mexico State University and were married in May 1936. They lived in South Dakota, Texas and New Mexico. They moved to Deming in 1952 along with their 3 children; Byron, Sylvia and James. Ouida was the first secretary at Martin School in 1953. She was active in the Hospital Auxiliary, Garden Club, ESA, Methodist Church, Custom House as well as many other activities. She was the Luna County Treasurer in the 1970’s . She cared for C. Ray until his death in 1993 and her son James in 1996.

She loved to work in her yard, to quilt, make afghan, do oil paintings and paint on agate slices. Keeping busy was her forte.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son, aunt and uncle, brother and parents.

Surviving her are son Byron (Diane); daughter, Sylvia as well as 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
