Oadas “Otis” Signal, Sr., a WWII Navy Veteran and retired investment securities courier, transitioned peaceably to his Heavenly Home during the late evening hours of August 4, 2015. Otis was born to the late Solomon Dennis Signal, Sr. and Mary Lazard Signal, a laborer and a homemaker respectively, in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 6, 1921. A child of the Great Depression, Otis was a frugal man, but was unfailingly generous with his wife, his children, and their children.
On July 31, 1941, he married Lillian Neustadter Signal, to whom he was married for over half a century, and they were blessed with a large and loving family that included five children; Barbara Jean, Otis, Jr., Ronald, Sandra and Claudia. He and Lillian enjoyed a beautiful life together filled with music and dance, laughter, good times, travel, and the deepest devotion to one another. Together, they raised their children with patience, discipline, and love, instilling in them the value of honesty and hard work, and always stressing the importance of excellence, preparedness, independence, respect, courage and grace, especially when under fire. “Family” meant everything to him.
Otis served in the U. S. Navy during WWII, earning the rank of Seaman 1st Class, and trained as a Pipefitter.
A man of modest talents, and one who knew and embraced Jesus Christ as his Savior, he lived a life of quiet inspirations. Otis was an avid outdoorsman, and a lover of sports, especially boxing.
