Oscar Joseph Corneillie, 85, of Austin, Minnesota passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 at the Adams Health Care Center in Adams, Minnesota. He was born the son of Gaston and Helena (DePietre) Corneillie on November 13, 1927 in Joliett, North Dakota.
Oscar spent most of his younger life in Joliett with his parents and five brothers and sisters. He later moved to St. Thomas, North Dakota where he worked several various jobs. Oscar enjoyed working with the farmers in the fields, he took great pride in doing the maintenance for the City of St. Thomas and the Heritage Village and taking care of the residents at the State School. He met and fell in love with Melda Marciniak. They were married on April 19, 1952. During their 13 years together they welcomed six beautiful children into the world. Oscar met and later married his next love Judy Burger on March 14, 1969. Together they welcomed another beautiful baby. They lived between St. Thomas and Grafton during of their married life until her passing on October 10, 1993. He was a simple man who loved to play his harmonica, which he played all his life. Often teaching anyone who wanted to learn his amazing gift. Oscar spent a great amount of time playing pinochle and whist with his wife, family and friends that would come to visit. His favorite past time was camping and enjoying the outdoors with his family at Lake Bronson in Minnesota. His family fondly remembers “he loved his country music and dancing to it…we always had a good time with Dad on the dance floor”. Oscar was a devoted husband and father and loved his family beyond words. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judy, sons; Miles Corneillie and Jeff Lorenzen, brothers; Gaston, Jr., Alfonse and Henry, sister; Julia and granddaughters; Patricia, Brandi and Jamie.
Oscar leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons; Oscar “Buddy” (Lynelle) Corneillie, Jr., and David Corneillie both of Thief River Falls, MN, Mike Nelson of East Grand Forks, MN and Jason (Kris) Lorenzen of Springfield, MN, daughters; Karen (Dan) Sandahl of East Grand Forks, MN, Kristy (Kent) Wagner and Kelly Corneillie both of Thief River Falls, MN, Jeri (Jeff) Schmidt of Buffalo, MN, Joanne (Mike) Thorson and Peggy (Terry) Corneillie both of Austin, MN, sister; Valentine Pelletier of Pembina, ND, 27 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
