Oscar Alex Mendez, 51, of Newton died on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
Alex, the son of Placido Delgado and Maria Solis, was born on February 25, 1971, and grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico. As an infant he moved to the United States and was raised in New Mexico. Alex graduated from high school in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He later moved to Phoenix, Arizona and had lived in Iowa for the last 15 years. Alex had resided in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and most recently Newton.
Alex is survived by his significant other, Larry Hamilton of Newton; his siblings, Jose Mendez, Imelda Delgado, Hortencia Diaz, and Olga Canales; nephews, Patrick Delgado, Manuel Canales, Jr., Jessica Canales, Ismael Gonsalez, and Lilibeth Delgado. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria Solis; step-father, Manuel Mendez Galvan; father, Placido Delgado; and siblings, Guadalupe Mitchell, Maria Cruz Mendez, and Jorge Delgado.
