Orville (Curly) Bannister, 93, of Grimes passed away peacefully at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines on Thursday, March 4, 2021.

Orville was born on September 6, 1927, to Frank and Bertha (Sexton) Bannister in Marne, IA. He married Ediel Gude on October 21, 1945, and she preceded him in death on May 20, 1993. On November 17, 1995, he was united in marriage to Lois Stone and they have been married for 25 years.

Orville worked in the egg business for over 40 years, first in Slater and then at the Hy-Line in Dallas Center until his retirement in 1990. He also served as a volunteer fireman in Slater for 25 years.

He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, gambling, and watching every sport he could, baseball being his favorite. His favorite pastime was watching his grandkids and great-grandkids at all their sporting events. They were his greatest joy!
Orville served in WW II in Germany as a Surgical Technician from 1945 to 1947. One of his great moments was to participate in the Honor Flight for veterans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ediel, brothers Mervin and Robert Bannister, sisters, Dorothy Hughes, Ruby Jean Knutson, Vernice Ann Knutson, and Juanita Clifford.

Orville is survived by his wife Lois, son Barry (Ginny) Bannister, daughter Connie (Kenneth) Hermann, step-sons, Larry (Marsha) Stone and Gary (Linda) Stone, five grandkids, Craig and Missy Bannister, Steve (Brooke) Hermann, Scott (Rhiannon) Hermann and Mindy (Matt) Morris, eight great-grandkids, Olivia and Rees Tyler, Blaine, Aubrey and Graden Hermann and Caleb, Addison and Brynlee Morris, brothers, Richard (Yoko) Bannister and Raymond (Maxine) Bannister, plus many nieces, nephews, and so many friends.
