Orville C. Johnson, 94, of Peru, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 at his Liberty Estates home in Peru. Mr. Johnson was born outside Lewistown, MO on June 29, 1923 to Orville E. and Nellie (Merrill) Johnson. He married Helen M. Miller of Quincy on December 29, 1945 in Canton, MO.

She predeceased him in 2010 following 65 years of marriage.  During World War II, Orville served in the U.S. 8th Air Force in Kimbolton, England, where as a corporal he was a radar mechanic in the bombardment unit. Following the war, he joined Illinois Bell Telephone Company, first in Quincy and then moving to Springfield in 1960. He retired in 1983 and was named a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He and his wife were long-time members of Christ the King Church in Springfield.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Dennis) Thompson of Princeton and Vicki (Lawrence) Ingrassia of Venice, CA; one son, Stephen (Carolyn) Johnson of Dallas, TX; five grandchildren, Richard (Shannon) Thompson, Gina (Daniel) Acker, Nicholas (Sarah) Ingrassia, Lisa (Chris Slevin) Ingrassia and Galen Johnson and eight great-grandchildren, Stephen, Benjamin, Ruby, Leila, Charles, Mason, Nate and Riley. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one grandson, Graham Johnson and his sister, Zelma Brace.
