Oral “Tee Hee” Madison Herrod, 79, of Clarksburg, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2010 at his residence with family by his side. He was born in Marshville on July 6, 1931, son of the late Odbert J. and Ruth Thompson Herrod. He was a member of the Wilsonburg Baptist Church. He graduated from Bristol High School and received his four year degree from Salem College. Oral was in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War and was given the Exclusive Fraternity of Honor during that time. He was a member of the VFW Post 629, Fairmont and the American Legion Post 31, Shinnston. Oral was and Industrial Arts Teacher in Virginia and at WI High School in his earlier years. He retired as a well tender for what is now Dominion. He loved the outdoors and would coon hunt and ride horses. He enjoyed carpentry work and was a very kind hearted man that never met a stranger and he made a difference in so many people’s lives. Surviving are his wife Mary Betty Williams Herrod whom he married October 31,1970; very close friends, Steve and Ruth Gum, West Union; the man and adopted grandson, Steven D Gum II; two brothers, Delano R Herrod, Clarksburg, Eldon B Herrod, Parkersburg; one sister, Lucille Herrod, Somerville, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
