On the cold, crisp morning of February 11th Flossie Rainwater completed her journey on this earth. It was quite a ride; not only for herself, but also for those who made the journey with her! She was born in the little town of Lindale in Floyd County, Georgia on March 17, 1934. Her birth name was Ora Mae, but that name was much too strict for the vivacious little girl that would come to be known to all as Flossie, for the rest of her life.
She was the daughter of the late James Floyd and Audrey Jewel Duncan Kiser. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sibling Patty Millican and also mourned the loss of her son-in-law Kevin Isakson. After attending Pepperell High School, she was smitten by a young man named Walter Allan Rainwater. Thus began a love affair that continued throughout the years of their marriage until his death in 2012.
Flossie was a woman of uncommon strength. That trait served her well as she helped Allan wage his battle with illness and also through her own health crises. That would also come in handy as a weapon to be wielded when raising three children who could be just as headstrong as she. She may have been small in stature, but she backed down from no one. If Flossie Rainwater thought she was right (and she usually was) heaven and earth better not get in the way. That same little dynamo could, when the need presented itself, be the most loving, nurturing person in the world. Family was priority number one. Children were high on the list, but oh those grandchildren and great grandchildren were so special. She loved them with no reservations. Allan’s death was a great change in her life, but she soldiered on and was held strong by a lifetime of wonderful memories and in full assurance of a life eternal with the God she served. After moving to Newnan in 1979, her faith became firmly planted in her beloved Newnan First United Methodist Church where Allan had served as a staff member.
Surviving her are her children Jim Rainwater and his wife Vicky, Jodi Isakson, and Allan Rainwater and his wife Amy. Her precious (and perfect) grandchildren are Chris (and Renee) Rainwater, Rena (and Shane) Manders, Phillip (and Caitlin) Rainwater, Tasha Rainwater and Cory Baker, Leah Isakson, Emily Rainwater and Rob Lohry, Charlie Glenn and Tatum Glenn. Her great grandchildren are Cannon Croce, Emory Rainwater, Zoey Dancy, Payton Rainwater, Ella Rainwater, Tori Manders, Rylan Rainwater, Navy James Rainwater and McKenzie Baker.
