Opal Meek She was born in Rochelle, Louisiana on December 4, 1914 to Louis Elbert and Lillie May Jones. From the late 40’s to 1960, she was the owner operator of Opal’s Beauty Salon in Bossier City, Louisiana and became the first woman in that city to be a member of the Businessmen’s Association.

She and her family then sold the business and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where she became a supervisor for Motorola. She retired in 1979 and began her full time volunteer work for the Lord. In 1991 she and her husband moved to Winslow, Arizona to be close to her daughter and family. After a few years, she began working at the Winslow Campus of Care where she continued until she was 90 years old. When she was 91 years old, she moved into The Peaks Senior Living Community where she volunteered in the Activities Department.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband James Aubrey, and is survived by daughters Kay Janey and Toya Rubi, son, Dr. Jim Meek (Nancie); 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; sister Juanita Kane and brother Elbert Alonzo Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

Opal’s family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to all the loving nurses, care givers, and staff at The Peaks for all their support during her stay. They would also like to express their gratitude toward Northland Hospice who so carefully and lovingly helped her during her passage into eternity.
