Opal Maxine Anderson, of Dolan, Indiana quietly passed away in the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ on September 3, 2016, at the IU Health Hospice House. Maxine was born in Lawrence County to Lela and Floyd Speer on February 2, 1920.
She and her husband Lloyd Anderson were married on July 3, 1943. In their 54 years of marriage, they raised six children. Richard (Margaret), Danny (Rhonda), Retha Robinson (Ernie), Larry (Kathe), Victor (Susie), and Shelly Tabereaux (David), who were the joy of her life along with (at least) twenty-six grandchildren, sixty-three great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her family, her greatest joy was cooking, especially her famous chocolate cake. She started her cooking career at the Brown County Abe Martin Lodge. After marrying Lloyd, she spent the next forty years raising her family and working alongside her husband in the Dolan Grocery Store, which became a big part of their life in the community. She also was a seventy-year member of The New Prospect Baptist Church in Dolan. After retiring to her farm, she spent much of her time cooking for her family and writing in her journals, watching her favorite game shows, and following IU basketball, and the Indiana Pacers.
Preceding her in death was her husband Lloyd in 1997; her parents, and her stepfather Riley Elkins, Brothers: Don Elkins, Ron Elkins, Mendell Speer; Sister Peg Gooldy; Daughter-in-Law Vicki Anderson; Son-in-Law Ernie Robinson, two Grandchildren and one Great Grandchild.
Survivors besides her six children and numerous grandchildren are sisters Millicent Younger of Bedford, Elizabeth Hancock of Dolan and Pat Swisher of Illinois.
