Opal Mae (Lionberger) Munson, 98, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on May 13, 1915 in Oregon County, Arkansas to Albert F. and Sarah (Tinkler) Lionberger. Opal’s family moved from Arkansas to Humboldt, Nebraska when she was young. Opal was raised in Humboldt and attended Humboldt Public Schools. On January 27, 1934, Opal was united in marriage to Harold Munson in Pawnee City, Nebraska. To this union five children, Donna, Vernon, Faye, Lee, and Wilma were born. The couple lived and raised their family in the same home in Humboldt where most of their children were born. Opal was a hard worker who took pride in her work and was very reliable.
Opal passed away at the Duff’s Friendship Villa in Nebraska City, Nebraska on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, having reached the age of ninety-eight years, nine months, and thirteen days. She was preceded in death by her mother at age 74 and her father at age 104; her husband Harold Munson, a son Master Sgt. Major Vernon (Lucille) Munson, a grandson Gary Gaddis, sisters: Gola, Violet, Maxine, Beulah, Juanita; a brother John Lionberger, and son-in-law Mark Gaddis.
Opal is survived by her children: Donna Gaddis of Mead, NE; Faye Rhinehart and her husband Dick of Nebraska City, NE; Lee Munson and his wife Jackie of Orleans, IN; Wilma Stephens and her husband “Rasty” of Pawnee City, NE; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother Gene Lionberger of Humboldt, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
