Olla Mae Richards was born to Will and Lena Ballengee in Granite, Oklahoma on December 10, 1913. She was the third child of three brothers and two sisters. Olla Mae came with her family to California in 1920. They came to Tulare and eventually settled in Taft. Olla Mae attended Taft High School for three years before marrying. She obtained her high school diploma later at Taft College. Olla Mae married Tommy Richards in 1930 and lived in Taft, Ventura and Maricopa.
