Oliver Frederick “Fred” Bengtson, Jr., 94, of Middletown, husband of the late Dorothy (Page) Bengtson, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 9th. Born in Middletown, he was the son of the late Oliver and Helen (Herdman) Bengtson, Sr. Fred was a lifelong Middletown resident and worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for thirty-four years as a master mechanic in experimental test and assembly. During his years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Manufacturing, he was assigned to East Hartford, CANEL in Middletown, and Willgoos Turbine Lab in East Hartford. Fred was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army (508th Ordinance Company) in the Philippines, New Guinea and Japan. Fred is survived by three daughters, Judith B. Goodstein of Moodus, Linda A. Birdsey (Craig) of Middletown and Alisa D. Frost (Ron) of Middlefield; six sons, Oliver F. Bengtson, III (Kathleen) of Moodus, David P. Bengtson (Marjorie) of Higganum, Dennis K. Bengtson (Susan) of Higganum, Richard E. Bengtson of Middletown, Theodore B. Bengtson of Middletown and Timothy P. Bengtson (Judi) of Meriden; a sister, Lillian Kelly of Middletown; twelve grandchildren, Karry B. Brothers, Keith T., Eric D., Dennis K. Ryan A., and Patrick O. Bengtson, Alena N. Stanley, James T. and Joseph J. Corbett, Scott C. and Garrett H. Birdsey, and Gage M. Frost; eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the many loving caregivers, home health aides and, most recently, the hospice nurses and other staff who made it possible for our Dad to remain at his home. Thank you, also, to Dr. Daniel Lamphiere, Dr Raphael Knauf and Dr. Robert Katz for the excellent care and continued support afforded our Dad.
