Olive Gertrude Maffit, 91, of Franklin, IN, left us November 13th to be with Jesus. She was in Hospice at Indiana University of Avon. The daughter of Charles “Toy” and Ada Rork, she was one of nine siblings. All of her siblings preceded her in death expect Terry Allen (of North Vernon, IN), her youngest brother. She was born and grew up in Osgood, IN. Her first job was as a candy striper at the hospital.

Olive was married to Robert Paul Maffit Sr., for 27 years. There were three children born from that marriage; Robert Paul Maffit Jr.(deceased), Joy Lynn Conner of Columbus, IN, and Michael Lee Maffit of Franklin, IN. Olive had six grandchildren; Christy Lynn Meek of Columbus, IN, Kimberly Lynn Moore of Lebanon, IN, Brandy Stanco of Arizona, and Becky Dobbs and Bradley Maffit of Nashville, IN, and five great-grandchildren; Ella Meek of Columbus, IN, Isabelle and Isaac Moore of Lebanon IN, and Mitchell and Leah of Michigan.

Olive was a Christian. She loved studying the Bible and sharing the Word of God. Her hobbies were working puzzles, solving crosswords, and Sudok’s. She spent hours looking at her flower beds and watching the various birds at the feeders. Olive was a stay home mom until 1966 when she went to work at RCA. She started at the mail room and worked her way to an executive position. RCA was taken over in 1988 by BMG/Double Day where she continued her career until retirement in 1990. Her motto for her department was “I can handle it”. Olive’s favorite meal was a butter burger. If you could not get her to eat, this would always work.
