Olimpio Anthony DiGiovanni, age 89, of Highland Park, died on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in the Province of L’Aquila, Italy, he immigrated at the age of two to the United States and lived in Highland Park for most of his life. He graduated in 1951 from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

He was a United States Army veteran serving during peacetime. Olimpio owned and operated Somerset County Clinical Laboratory in Somerville where he served as the laboratory director for over 35 years. Prior to that, he had been employed as a laboratory director at Middlesex General Hospital in New Brunswick. He was a member of the Highland Park Board of Health and the American Association of Bioanalysts.

Olimpio was pre-deceased by his brother, Armond DiGiovanni in 2005 and his parents, Raimondo and Laura DiGiovanni. He is survived by a daughter, Laura Kielar and her husband, James, of Bridgewater, N.J., a grandson, Evan Kielar, and Olimpio’s partner, Sylvia Lyness.
