Olga (Dubno) Pospolita, 90, of New Haven, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away October 25, 2021. She was the widow of the late Stefan Pospolita. Olga was born in Zolochiv, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine, the daughter of the late Hryhoryj and Emilia Skorna Dubno.
In 1949, Olga emigrated to the United States with her family. As a teenager, her family lived on a farm before moving to New York City. She married her husband and eventually settled in New Haven. She became a U.S. citizen and worked hard, finding employment first with A.C Gilbert and later Southern New England Telephone Co. in New Haven from which she retired in the 1980’s.
She was a lifelong and active member of St.
Olga’s life revolved around raising her family and she was proud of all of her children’s accomplishments. She was a doting grandmother to her three beloved grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking traditional Ukrainian dishes, especially around the holidays, and was well known for the scarves, afghans and baby blankets she crocheted for family and friends, sewing a special label in each one she gave away, “Made especially for you by Olga Pospolita.”
Olga is survived by son, George and daughter-in law Irene Pospolita; daughter, Daria and son-in-law Roman Jakubowski; son, Stefan Pospolita and daughter-in-law Karen Avitabile; and daughter, Natalie and son-in-law Jonathan Silverstein; her three adoring grandchildren, Emilia, Archie and Alaina Silverstein; her sisters, Irene Hladkyj and Luba C. Dubno; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Orest T. Dubno.
