Olen N. Miller

Olen N. Miller, age 90, of Tipton went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 31, 2020, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 7, 1929 in Shipshewana, IN to his parents, Noah K. Miller and Susan (Wierick) Miller.

Olen grew up and went to school in Shipshewana. He was the youngest child in his family. Olen learned a great deal from his 12 older siblings. Rooted in the Amish way of life, Olen had a very strong work ethic, understood the value of family, and had a deep commitment to his faith at an early age.

On November 21, 1953 Olen married the love of his life, Jeanette (Bieri) Miller. The two of them started their life together in Tipton, IN….. and Tipton has remained their home ever since.

Olen was a very kind and gentle man. You could see it in the way he carried himself and you could hear it in his voice when he spoke to people. He treated everyone with the same level of respect. He was a strong man of faith that many people looked up to and admired.

He was able to build a very successful construction business, spanning over 40 years. He had a very broad skillset and could fix or build almost anything. His attention to detail, his craftsmanship and relentless effort to make things right the first time was obvious in his work. Olen Miller Construction was second to none.

Olen had many interests. When he wasn’t busy working, you might have found him in his garden, participating in a bowling league, watching bowling or the Indiana Pacers on TV, or playing in a softball league (which he did until he was almost 70 years old). He also very much enjoyed traveling with his family.

Olen was a very positive influence in the lives of many people. He will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he made through the years. Olen was truly one of a kind!

Those left to carry on Olen’s legacy of love are his loving wife of 66 years, Jeanette Miller; daughters, Lynne Delph, of Fremont, CA and Karen Harris, of Tipton ; grandchildren, Isaac Delph, of Las Vegas, NV , Shanna Delph, of Seattle, WA, Ian Delph, of Las Vegas, NV, and Elizabeth Lee of Tipton; great grandkids, Dakota Delph, Isabella Lee, Veronica Lee, and Sophia Lee.

Olen was preceded in death by his parents and his 12 siblings.
