Olar Allen, 97, of Vandalia, died Sunday, July 8, 2012 in her residence surrounded by her family. She was born December 11, 1914 in Elberton, Georgia to Frank and Viola Heard. She married Raymond McIntosh in Elberton, Georgia. He preceded her in death. She later married Leo R. Allen.
He also preceded her in death. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded by her parents; one grandson, Derek K. Sykes; three sisters, Elizabeth Cannon, Annie Burton and Eula Mae Willis. Olar loved to sing, praising the Lord and singing a Dr. Watts. She loved her church and church family, and they loved her, too. She would always host family dinners for the holidays.
She enjoyed fishing. Olar will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by one daughter and son in law, Georgia and Leon Yarbrough of Vandalia; two granddaughters, Vickie L. Sykes of Vandalia, Donnette Sykes of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Nell Ward of Cassopolis, Gladys Jones of Chicago, Illinois; godson and wife, Curtis and Demetria Kelly of South Bend; adoptive daughter and husband, Stella and Lucius McIntosh Peterson of Vandalia; a host of nieces and nephews, including niece Daisy Hervey of Vandalia; and best friend Roberta Gayles of Chicago, Illinois.
