King – Olan M. Hicks, 93 of King, NC passed away peacefully Monday, July 2, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Forsyth Co. to the late Thomas and Maude Thompson on Oct. 7, 1925.  He was a NC State Highway Patrolman and US Marine Veteran.  He attended school in Forsyth Co. and the Institute of Government at Chapel Hill, NC and training at Paris Island, SC before serving in the Pacific arena of the US Marine Corps having received two Purple Hearts. After serving his country with the US Marine Corps, he joined the NC State Highway Patrol until his retirement.  In addition to serving his country and state, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great-grandfather.  He was marred to Ailene Neal of Walnut Cove, NC for seventy years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ailene Neal Hicks, three brothers: Archie, Leroy, and Rev. Ronald Hicks, one sister Mrs. Zeno Groce (Helen).

He is survived by two children: Walter Alan Hicks (Karen) of Walnut Cove, NC, and Wendy H. Nance of King, NC, three grandchildren: April H. Sharpe of Statesville, NC, Fletcher Hicks (Cheryl) of Lexington, NC, and Russell Nance (Elizabeth) of Asheboro, NC, six great-grandchildren: Taylor B. Lowry (Josh) of Statesville, NC, Marlin Branton of Statesville, NC, Zoey Sharpe of Statesville, NC, Hunter Hicks of Lexington, NC, Sarah Hicks von Hofen (Kevin) of PA and Katherine Hicks of PA., two great-great grandchildren: Emmitt and Alaric Hicks of PA, two sisters-in-law: June L. Hicks of Winston-Salem, NC and Bonnie H. Harbuck (Gene) of Lewisville, NC, and several special nieces and nephews in Kingsport TN, Winston-Salem area and Stokes Co. NC.
